Healed Scar Care: A Simple Daily Routine | IBEELIV

Once a wound has healed, it is natural to wonder what comes next. Should you start using silicone scar tape? How do you fit scar care into your day? And how long should you expect changes to take?

A practical routine begins with understanding your skin, choosing an appropriate product and setting realistic expectations. Whether your scar follows surgery or an everyday injury, gentle care can become a manageable part of your morning and evening.

1. Make sure your skin is ready

Silicone scar tape should only be applied to completely healed skin. If an area is still open or weeping, it needs wound care rather than scar tape. After surgery, ask your treating clinician when your incision is ready for silicone products.

Silicone gel sheets may help soften and reduce the height of some scars by supporting hydration. Their suitability depends on the scar and your skin’s condition.

2. Keep application simple

Before applying silicone scar tape, clean and thoroughly dry the scar and surrounding skin. Follow the instructions supplied with your product when preparing and positioning the tape.

If you are new to silicone sheets, begin with a shorter wear period and build up gradually according to the product instructions and your clinician’s advice. Pay attention to how your skin responds rather than assuming that longer wear is always better.

Remove the tape and seek advice if you develop a rash, persistent redness or irritation.

3. Make cleaning part of the routine

Reusable silicone sheets need regular care. Follow the manufacturer’s directions for washing, drying, storage and replacement.

You might find it easier to connect this with something you already do, such as getting ready in the morning or preparing for bed. Use that moment to check your skin, clean the sheet as directed and decide whether it is ready to reapply.

IBEELIV’s Silicone Scar Tape is reusable, with a soft, flexible format. Check the enclosed instructions for guidance specific to your product.

4. Remember sun protection

Scar care also includes protecting the area outdoors. The NHS recommends keeping scars covered in the sun for at least a year and using sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.

Choose clothing that comfortably covers the area where practical. Do not assume that wearing scar tape provides sun protection; check whether your particular product has a stated UV protection rating.

5. Give changes time

Scars can continue to change for two years or longer. Silicone products cannot guarantee complete scar removal, and the outcome will differ from person to person.

An occasional photograph taken in similar lighting can help you keep a consistent record without checking for changes every day. If your scar becomes swollen, painful, warm or starts producing pus, seek medical advice rather than continuing your routine unchanged.

At IBEELIV, we believe scar care should feel approachable. Start when your skin is ready, follow the product instructions and choose a routine you can comfortably maintain.
